Happy International Women’s Day

Hey Lovelies!

This week I wanted to talk about International Women’s Day! I recently wrote a post about friendships and in that I talked a lot about some of the amazing women in my life. In this post I compiled a list of some of my favourite quotes from some amazing women, starting with a little quote from my interview with The Insecure Girls club.

There’s something so amazing about being around people who are so positive and make you feel safe to be yourself. And when I’m with my friends I feel all these things, so much so, it makes me feel confident in my own skin.”

Sharuni, The Insecure Girls Club Interview

I want to apologise to all the women I have called beautiful
before i’ve called them intelligent or brave
I am sorry I made it sound as though
something as simple as what you’re born with
is all you have to be proud of
when you have broken mountains with your wit
from now on I will say things like
you are resilient, or you are extraordinary
not because I don’t think you’re beautiful
but because I need you to know
you are more than that

Rupi Kaur, An Amazing Poet

What makes me proud to be a woman is living a life that was fought for, in order to live the ambitious lives, we do today. Having the ability to vote makes me proud to be a woman as it was a right that was fought for by incredibly brave women.
I am proud to be able to fulfil my self through family and career and not having to choose between the two.

Sarah, A Friend Who Inspires Me

Make it a priority to surround yourself with people who love you, believe in you and show up for you. People who you don’t feel ‘guilty’ or embarrassed crying about your insecurities to. Recognise those who make you feel bad about yourself or don’t respect you and de-prioritise them.

Gina Martin, Activist and Just AMAZING

I’d say that we’re all individual and unique; we all have different strengths. But when we all come together, we’re powerful and go after what we want. For example, we’ve come such a long way since getting the vote, so much so that our country is now run by a woman with many MPs being female as well. And I think if someone said to someone 100 years ago that a woman would be Prime Minister, no one would believe them

Georgie, A Friend Who Always Makes Me Smile

Don’t let the internet rush you. Do things at your own pace, because you have time. A year isn’t a marker for anything- and some great things take longer than 12 months to happen.

Olivia Purvis, An Absolute Gem Who Created The Insecure Girls Club

I feel proud of being a woman because I can be who I want and how I want to be. I am grateful for being a woman that can have my own opinions, my own interests and that I can take part in almost any kind of work I would put my mind and motivation into.

Martha, A Friend Who Inspires Me To Better

When you’ve worked hard, and done well, and walked through that doorway of opportunity, you do not slam it shut behind you. You reach back.

Michelle Obama, Inspiring AF!

Today we are not fighting for equality as much as we are fighting for acceptance not only as women but as a whole society, because once we are able to accept our differences we will realise how much we have in common and how much more we can achieve together by sharing and spreading love.

Tania, A Friend Who Always Has My Back

Every time I look at my mother, who came to this country as a tiny 11 year old, and is now the strongest woman I know, I feel proud to be a woman.

Patricia, She’s My Person

I hope you all have an amazing International Women’s Day!

Love Sharuni xx
